Solution to hand 1
With eight top tricks outside of heartd, the suit you must develop, you need to play hearts to your best advatage for FOUR TRICKS. The best play with this combination is to lead low from dummy and insert the 9. You score 4 heart tricks anytime the suit breaks 3-3 or East has Jx, Qx, or QJxx; not a bad play!

** mad.gif I sometimes get the feeling that your undivided attention is not being given to these problems and instead they seem to be attended to without much great thought, please can we have more thought this time and can we have it written in an inteligable manner with note taken of which suit you are playing!!
THE BOTTOM LINE
After partner makes an invitational raise to 4NT, a new suit by the opener is natural, it is NOT some response to a non-existent Blackwood bid. At nt ( or suit ) count your sure tricks outside the suit you must develp so you know how many tricks you need in your main suit.
With K10xxx facingA9 doubleton the best play for 4 tricks is to lead low to the 9; with K10xx facing A9 doubleton, the best play for 3 tricks is to lead low to the 9

Solution to hand 2

This is supposed to be a "confidence builder". In order to get an 'A' all you have to do is play low from dummy and preserve the Q as a stopper in case East gets the lead. Since the diamond finesse is going into E, that seems a clever idea.
After winning the AS, run 8D or the JD. as it happens it loses but E cannot attack spades without surrendering a trick to dummy's Q. In the meantime you now have 9 tricks:4DS +2Hs+2Cs and 1S playing the QS at trick 1 is an optical illusion. If W has lead from the K you can always take a second S later, but if E has the K your now guarded Q protects you from a further S attack
