Reformed Englishman- 11-09-2005
I was playing in the Scottish Trials first weekend when I picked up:

xx
J109xx
AJ6xx
x

sitting north the bidding went:

N E S W
P 1D* 2D* 4NT*
5H 6C 7H Passed Out

The 2D bid was a strong, almost game forcing hand, 4NT asking partner to bid his minor (1D being either minor), I therefore decided diamonds was not going to be one of partners suits and bid 5H, promptly raised to seven, after a flicker of a sacrifice.

My partner put down:

AQJ9xxx
AKQxxx

Not too shabby? Can you beat this?

(The board was unfortunately flat as the pathetic +300 was taken off the card, aswell as one of the rest of the 2210's)

you werent doubled?
obviously the oppo decided to play properly, i double anything i dont like the bidding of (polish club excluded) biggrin.gif

Reformed Englishman- 11-10-2005
Of course I wasn't doubled, although wasnt much chance to show off our great precision auctions. The box packing must be pretty boring, your on here far too much recently. (Not much to be said for myself though (alchohol has nothing to do with this of course))

Might need an addiction clinic soon but as i work in teh factory im getting good at talking to myslelf

tonight (just back in) i realised my voice was slightly hoarse after singing to myself all night, ive made some quality songs, verses and some sweet music video ideas...

And really not X, i have managed to (finally) get a reputation for doubling locally biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif its sweet biggrin.gif biggrin.gif they do get rather excited when they make there contracts(only game, never Xinto game) but hey, i pick up so many +500's a night.

And i was re-looking at that awesome dummy, the 300, is - to you since your playing the contract and 300 seems -3...

since your collection of cards shores up the trump suit i can only assume its the spades, which even with a 4-0 split gives two losers, UNLESS

a small one was lead form KTxx and was trumped on the opening lead after you play an honour, and to that i say no way!? wicked distribution rules!

Reformed Englishman- 11-11-2005
Admittedly the contract is on a finesse at worst, but since the opening bid was in the right place and was fairly confident my two small opposite AQJ to seven would suffice.

I unfortunately, do not have an excuse for my adiction apart from laziness. I am supposed to be doing work at the moment, yet I am typing some meaningless jibberish on a forum that only two people look at.

I have not started to talking to myself yet though.

Not hust 2 people Alex, I log on regularily, in the vain hope that SOMEONE will keep the promise to reorginise this site and keep it up to date sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Crickey, or some other non offensive non swear word of exclamation

Since you were talking about how many ppl have been around on the forum i've had a wee look, just a tentative spy from the roof tops sort of thing

Only two ppl had replied there are almost 40 views, but come on, no-one can remember a dummy as good as that not even da Boss!!

I managed to notch up 46 views on my basking shark topic smile.gif
And there aint so many people to post on teh forum

Aye, to be true its got good chances but i still cant see why its -300?

Reformed Englishman- 11-16-2005
The plus 300 was gained, I assume, in defending 7C*, since there are no heart losers (one hand has void), 1 spade loser, there was a singleton, and one diamond loser, as I am not on lead.

Myles- 11-18-2005
I got a good dummy (from couple fridays ago, but just after u asked the question and i dint think to reask the question after i had this, like in maths, the answer never changes)

A
A
AQ87
AKQJT97

but i take no joy in in the hand, i err, *slightly* messed the bidding
but i am expecting it to be a flat brd since a slam cant be made!
yeah i was holding some rubbish and managed 4 wrong bids in a row, starting off showing a postive for startes and showing a good suit, showing a 2nd suit (Qxxx) and replying wrong suit to rkcb, passing the Q ask since i thought it was trump suit sign of, Genius

Sounds like a highly impressive cock-up Miles, but i think I can go one step further on the 'cock-up' scale. It is stolen from an old article.

There was a pair of international Irish women playing in a club in Dublin. They playing a pair playing a forcing pass system which involved the pair passing with an opening hand 1st and 2nd. Well the Irish ladies had met them before and fallen foul of this once, it was not a happy reunion. One of the Irish Internationals picks up a 28 point hand, with the deal on her right. He opens with a pass, and she starts to think. She asks lefty, 'This shows an opening hand doesnt it?', to which he confirms. She decides to trap pass. While all this thinking is going on lefty looks at his one count and starts to get suspicious. When she finally passes he thinks, 'Bugger this, I dont care what my partners got' and passes. The other Irish international passes and that ends the auction. Of course the opening pass was psyched on a flat nothing count and they just passed out a cold seven NT with a combined 39 count.

So, the moral of that story is things could aways be worse, at least you haven't passed out a combined 39 count.

mmmmm, excuse yourselves a moment while you sit and dream

leftie opens 2Lungs (weak, duu!)
and laugh.gif
ph34r.gif Partner! ph34r.gif bids ph34r.gif 2 spadulas ph34r.gif ph34r.gif

At our table oppo asked for aces
one
kings
two
and then

bid 6diamonds
riiiiiight
shotgun i get to shotgun them?
its not like you can count 13 tricks in 7N is it....6D could go down on a killing double void cross ruff so bidding 7N is the safest contract (by 0.000001% but still)

Sadly i have an addumendium to make, it cant have been 2 kings, since that is 6h so must have been one king, surely unless they bid 6d over 6h, maybe, or there is a system that allows that to be bid to show one ace and 2 kings with responder bidding d to end at 6d

anway, even still opposite one ace and king either 6d is one off losing 2 kings or 7 makes since p has a k entry and the ace to dispose a loser, so again 7n is the best contract!

Have another, more intricate dummy to add, by which I mean that it wasn't mine. The latest round of the Scottish Trials, the sixteenth and final board of the match, my partner leads a diamond and down goes:

J9xxx
-
98xx
10xxx

Brilliant!

Let me clarify, your hand is as follows,

AQxx
10
KQJ10x
AKx

and the bidding, with you as North has gone:

N E S W
1C* 1H* P P
X P P XX
P P P

Partner turns up with,

Kxx
K98xxx
X
Jxx

Woo Hoo! EW vulnerable, and it goes down three for 1600. The scorecard also had to 1100s on but it still gained us a healthy 16 or so imps, to win the match 22-8.
